قالت مصادر إنّ الرئيس السوري بشار الأسد رفض إلقاء خطاب التنحي عن السلطة بعد تسارع الأحداث التي بدأت بسيطرة إدارة العمليات العسكرية بقيادة هيئة تحرير الشام على
حلب، بحسب المرصد السوري لحقوق الإنسان.
وتابع أنه ومع تسارع الأحداث يوم السبت الماضي ورفض الأسد إلقاء خطاب التنحي، غادرت قيادات الجيش والأفرع الأمنية الضباط والمسؤولين من دمشق إلى منازلهم في القرى، خوفا من تنفيذ عمليات إغتيال.
ووفقا للمصادر فإن الأسد كان يُعوّل على دعم إيران، في حين تخلت عنه الفصائل الإيرانية بعد معركة حلب، كما تخلت عنه روسيا بالمشاركة العسكرية بعد انكسار قوات النظام السابق في حماة.
وكشفت أنه وفي الليلة الأخيرة قبل سقوط النظام تم حل الجيش بأوامر منه بعد الساعة 12 ليل الأحد 8 كانون الأول، ووصل الأمر إلى القطعات العسكرية عبر اللاسلكي بحل الجيش وخلع البزة العسكرية وارتداء اللباس المدني ومغادرة القطعات والثكنات العسكرية.

Sources reported that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad refused to deliver a resignation speech after the rapid developments that began with the military operations command, led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, taking control of Aleppo, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
It continued that with the rapid escalation of events last Saturday and Assad’s refusal to deliver the resignation speech, army leaders, security branch officials, officers, and government officials fled from Damascus to their homes in villages, fearing assassination attempts.
According to the sources, Assad had been relying on support from Iran. However, Iranian factions abandoned him after the Battle of Aleppo, as did Russia in its military involvement following the collapse of the former regime’s forces in Hama.
The sources revealed that on the final night before the regime’s fall, the army was disbanded under his orders after midnight on Sunday, December 8. This decision was communicated to military units via radio, instructing them to dissolve the army, remove their military uniforms, wear civilian clothes, and leave their units and military barracks.
